COVID-19 RRR Update: FG to Start Cash Disbursement

You may recall that the former Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development had declared the cessation of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme in November 2022.

However, under the Tinubu administration, led by Dr. Edu, there is a renewed commitment to resurrecting the program.

The government aims to identify deserving aid recipients by expanding the National Social Register and beginning the distribution of the suggested $800 million for the program.

Humanitarian Dialogue and HPATF

During the meeting, the participants also deliberated on collaborating to host the Humanitarian Dialogue and establishing the Renewed Hope Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation Trust Fund (HPATF).

The trust fund’s financing will come from the government’s budget, international partners, taxes, private sector contributions, and other sources.

Dr. Edu asked for the World Bank’s help in enhancing the National Social Register and achieving the President’s goals.

The World Bank Country Director pledged support, confirming the upcoming disbursement of the $800 million for the project.

The World Bank will also aid in enlarging the National Social Register, offering technical support, and assisting in establishing the Trust Fund.
