Dr Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, reveals plans for Npower and other NSIP programmes under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, focusing on job creation, providing palliatives, and starting a Humanitarian Trust Fund.

In a recent interview, Dr Betta Edu, the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, revealed the plans of President Bola Tinubu towards Npower and other government’s humanitarian programmes.

The Npower initiative is part of the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP) implemented by the previous administration. Program continuity or innovation: the administration’s path ahead.

When asked if the administration plans on sticking strictly to the initiatives already deployed or if they will be focusing on new ones, the Honourable Minister responded affirmatively to both.

“We’ll introduce numerous innovations into the system.”

However, the programs carried out by the past Administration are really very useful and helpful,” she stated.

Re-jiggering and Expanding the System

“We will be re-jiggering a couple of things and looking at the past trying to make amends wherever we have not done well and expanding it to accommodate more people,” Dr Edu explained.

This entails analyzing the current system, rectifying errors, and enhancing its capacity.

Job Creation and Providing Palliatives

“We will be looking at job creation in their million, and we will be looking at providing palliatives and food down to households in the most remote areas in Nigeria where they are underserved,” she continued.

This underscores the administration’s dedication to tackling unemployment and aiding vulnerable communities.

Humanitarian Trust Fund

“So a lot of intervention will come under the entire poverty alleviation plan.

A standout element is launching a Humanitarian Trust Fund, enabling robust resource mobilization to fulfill our objectives.
